Edd Hall joined “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” as the announcer on the program’s premiere on May 25, 1992, capping two decades of announcing and voice work in New York and Los Angeles. He frequently takes part in comedy sketches on “The Tonight Show,” and he appears in the show's opening. In addition he hosts a monthly radio show called “Country Giants” on the United Stations Radio Network.
Hall began his entertainment career in 1972 when, at age 14, he was hired as an announcer for a radio station in the town of Corning, in upstate New York. He was a part-time deejay throughout high school and college at a variety of stations from “big band” to rock ‘n’ roll. He noticed early on that being on the radio impressed the young ladies and he said, “I knew then that this would be my destiny.” After college, Hall moved to New York City to “become a star,” but stardom meant starting as an NBC page in January of 1979 where he worked with the original “Not-Ready-For-Prime-Time Players” on “Saturday Night Live.” His first network appearance was a five-minute comedy routine on NBC’s “The Tomorrow Show” with Tom Snyder in 1980. Later that year, he joined the production staff of the morning version of NBC’s “David Letterman Show,” and in 1982 he was hired as the graphic design coordinator on “Late Night with David Letterman.”
Hall has appeared and done voice work in a variety of television and film projects, including “Murphy Brown,” “The Edge,” “Married...with Children,” “Get A Life,” “Saturday Night Live,” “Blossom” and “Late Night with David Letterman,” the cable special “The Paula Poundstone Show” and assorted “Comedy Hours” with various comedians. “Tonight Show” fans might have also heard his voice as an announcer on PBS, ABC, E!,WB network, Showtime, Cinemax, The Learning Channel, Lifetime, or in many feature films. In addition, Hall wrote an episode of Chris Elliott’s “Get A Life,” an occasional bit on the “David Letterman Show” and “Late Night,” and for radio. As a graphic designer, his opening title sequences have been seen on NBC, HBO, Fox and CBS, including an animation package in 1991 for David Letterman’s World Wide Pants Company. Hall won the Broadcast Design Association Gold Award for his work on “Late Night with David Letterman” commercial bumpers.
Working on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” affords Hall the opportunity to indulge his primary interests: announcing and acting. He cites delivering a birthday cake to the late Sonny Bono as his favorite moment on the show.
A native of Boston, Hall grew up in Corning and attended Syracuse University where he majored in TV/radio advertising and psychology. He lives in Los Angeles with his wife, daughter and son.
